Twice a year in May and September we host a Special Event commemorating the upcoming Bi-Centennial of the starting of the Santa Fe Trail. Sept 1st 1821 William set out for the unknown and wound up in Santa Fe, NM. Trading the goods he took with him, he came home with around $6000.00 having started with roughly $300.00. After returning to his small community of Franklin, Mo, (just across the river from Boonville) he decided to do it again. So on May 20th 1822, he and about 30 men set out for Santa Fe again. This time taking substantially more in goods he wound up coming home with near $90,000 in coin and returning goods he purchased. (Thats roughly $1.8 million in todays dollars.) Thus the start of the Santa Fe Trail began. He is credited as being the founding father and as such we are celebrated in May a weekend event and this next weekend Sept. 7th & 8th we will be on the air again. Using our call sign WB(zero)SFT and 6 1x1 calls. W0B through W5B. Look for information on WB0SFT.org for times and frequences.
