I wanted to see if it's possible to activate a Parks on the Air park using just a wire connected directly to my radio. The Elecraft KX3's tuner is famous for being able to tame even the worst antennas - how it would fair with my long wire? What bands will it work on? Can I leave the 9:1 unun at home?
I can't watch due to data issues but I bet it did. I want to try a wire and a counterpoise with the bnc/2-wire connector that came with my KX3. Normally use an emcommII end fed. Saving for later.
Speaking from experience in a park, I used the 35 foot length on 40/30/20 and it worked well...as in I was able to work a lot of US stations on 40 easily with 2 watts CW, and DX on 30 and 20 with same mode and power. I used an Elecraft T-1 tuner, and skipped the 9:1 balun. 17 ft counterpoise https://www.hamuniverse.com/randomwireantennalengths.html https://udel.edu/~mm/ham/randomWire/
I'll say it did work. My 40/20 KX1 worked OK with the recommended 28 feet and 16 for a c'poise. Mike N3PM
