Fellow that I worked with years ago had been in the Air Force stationed at Wheelus Air Base in Libya. According to him, the club station there had a license signed by the King, which was good for “unlimited power”.

Canadian operators are allowed more power for SSB operation. According to

those operators having the highest class license can run 2250-watts output.

For best performance, an amplifier should have capabilities of more than 1500-watts output. However, in operation, the amplifier should not be run at more than 1500-watts output for those stations licensed by the FCC or are operating within the jurisdiction of the FCC.

Way back I was driven on the autobahn on a business trip.

On my expense account I put in for hazardous duty pay.

This. You don't want to run your equipment at 100% all the time; even though it's rated for that power, running at 100% stresses everything and shortens the life of components. I like to run at about 2/3 rating whenever possible.

I met a guy who had one that dik 3k and one that did 7.5kw... He built them himself. The big one was bigger than my whole rack of radio gear. His antenna was maybe 100+ feet up, way above the huge maples in his yard. Anyway.. some people run them low like that and have fun doing it.
