I recently inherited the gear of a silent key. Among this are four of the small radios that clip onto one's belt. Two Yaesu, a Kenwood, and I forget the fourth. These were all acquired in the last three years, at least two of them new, so I'm thinking the reason is not because they didn't work. Why would someone have that many wearable radios?

Because 3 is simply not enough, and 5 seems like too many. YMMV

Because one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do.

Some folks collect coins, some collect stamps and some collect radios...

Because they wanted them? Why have cars that can go faster than speed limits?

Owning four shacks-on-a-belt, or wearing all four of them at the same time?

I have seen the latter at hamfests more than once.

Just owning four HTs, I guess is no different from my owning four 75A-4s.

For bands and modes. I have 2, one for fm 2m 70cm, one for DMR and use neither. Add DStar and Fusion and thats 4.

Maybe he won a few of them as hamfest prizes?

Maybe he did public service events, and had or planned on having a spare rig and a couple of loaners?
