Sebastian Delmont KI2D is the creator of PoLo—the open-source portable logger from Ham2K that’s become a favorite among Parks on the Air activators. What began as a side project to streamline his own field operations has grown into a widely adopted logging tool for portable ops. With a clean interface, fast logging, and offline capability, PoLo captures the rhythm of real-world radio—from trail to tailgate. Originally from Venezuela and now based in New York, Sebastian blends the instincts of a software engineer with the soul of a field operator. He’s a CW guy, a contester, and a builder who prefers practical solutions over flash. In this conversation, we explore the origins of PoLo, how community feedback has helped shape its evolution, and why Sebastian thinks the best software often comes from scratching your own itch. Excellent interview! I was fortunate enough to get to meet Mr.Delmont at Dayton - just a great guy all around. I use PoLo daily. The hobby wouldn't be the same without it, for me. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Ham2K!
Sebastian is my IT person on the DX Marathon Program. He is a genius and has helped our program so much. The website at www.dxamarthon.com is his work...and the new submission system that everyone is using today is his work as well. Lastly, we are transitioning to a system this year whereby 100% of our participants will receive electronic copies of their participation and accomplishments in the year long program...yep, he is doing this as well. Thank you Sebastian... Mark WC3W DX Marathon Program Administrator
There is one problem with using a cell phone other than the tiny keyboard. As I've grown older, my fingers don't activate the buttons on the screen very well. Even Dave Casler (KE0OG) has commented on this phenomenon with touch screens and I'm now old enough to start experiencing it myself. I don't know the cause, but the problem is real. Unless the phone/tablet manufacturers fix this, us old pharts really have to use a keyboard to operate at speed. I'm not fond of lugging a laptop, but that's the way it is for now.
Great app that just keeps getting better. I appreciate the continuing development by a real ham that's actually out doing these activities and understands portable logging! Keep up the amazing work, Sebastian.
