That was also my experience for the first 40years of my ham career, but for the last twenty years or so, we have been forced to use switching power supplies (most from Asia). That is also when ferrites became readily available, and cheap!
There ya go. Another question that will just open up this polarization of the 2 groups of people someone else mentioned here.
Hey, VNA'a are inexpensive. Get one, learn to use it and do some testing.
Because once these conversations go around about 15-20 times, bidirectional opinions dominate over common ones.
