    A big part if this statement is lost on many modern ham operators. In the fact that today we operate transceivers that have digital frequency displays. It is taken for granted that what is seen in that display is what you are getting when transmitting. There is no more calibration or spot frequency to zero beat. The notion of carrier center frequency is lost?

    Yep. There is an irony to the fact that wherever you have your dial set to on SSB (USB/LSB/DSB) that there should be no emission at that spot, theoretically, at least. Practically is another matter...
