Why do hams refer to themselves as WE instead of I?

    My understanding is it comes from the early days of amateur radio.

    Most hams were younger -- of an age where they weren't yet married. While operating their station, they'd be showing off to their girlfriend. (or date) At the time, radio was such a big deal that showing off one's ability to operate a ham rig really did impress the girlfriend.

    (there'd probably be quite a few more of us if it still did(grin))

    The BIG BOPPER (Jiles Perry "J. P." Richardson Jr), Buddy Holly, and Richie Valens were killed in a plane crash Feb. 3, 1959. This later became known as "The Day the Music Died".
