In the end the answers appears to be focus on the positive and spin the dial on the negative
And to think you worked a DX station without a four slice receiver and a huge high definition display. There are some on the Zed who would call that impossible.
Good catch though, especially portable.
More than a few hams long for a golden age of amateur radio--that never was. I will say it again...whether we're talking about the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, or today, hams have been some of the nicest, smartest, and best people I've ever been proud to associate with. Has every one of them been an "elite" with a master's in EE? No. And I don't care...that didn't and hasn't changed a thing.
Let's all remember the words of these enlightened, intellectual moral leaders:

Hey, I didn't say anything about social skills.
I only got a C in social studies. I'm still in chapter 1 of Social skills.
I do have a slightly faded doctor's note that let's me roam the hall.
He MUST be a misfit, using a mere General frequency! (Sorry for being sarcastic. GOOD for him!)
Nowadays, a "darkroom" is where you use PhotoShop with the room lights off...
Yep, pretty much. I know that I turn off the lights when I fire up CS5. I'm still using CS5, as I believe that was the last release one could actually buy and own. Nowadays it's rent only.
Personally, I don’t think I have ever been more tolerant of those who are tolerant of me as I am now. But... go out of your way to step on my toes and I lose all tolerance.
Put a nicer way, be nice to me and I’ll be nice to you.
