Why are some so negativity in the Amateur radio hobby?

    I have other hobbies Photography, & Jeeps in particularity where most the people seem
    more positive, overall happier and more willing to help out a newcomer in to the hobby.

    I'm just curious as to why that is?

    It's just a very opinionated bunch of folks, often with wildly differing opinions and both sides always insist they're right.

    I used to visit recording studio forums, and a few of those make QRZ look tame!

    For a 'hobby' that centers on communication there are quite a few bitter people who border on anti-social, something I found to be ironic.
    Social media brings it out to the forefront because of anonymity.
    I'm come to spend less and less time on social media, it's a poison place now, soon hopefully I'll quit, and just play radio.

    A side note: I have spent quite a few years in the gun world and have dealt with lots of people there, both professional and amateur. Even in that world offline the majority of them are easily more tolerable than those in the ham world.

    Maybe because they know that they all have guns??:D

    I think that the grumpy hams all have lousy antennas and can't work much of anything.

    I've had a great experience as a ham, many many great supportive people.

    My other hobbies, guitar, sailing, model rockets, mathematics, folks are very supportive.

    Just gotta find the right clubs.
