It's true, I have seen a bunch of radios and amplifiers for sale lately. What do you suppose is responsible for this mass sell off of amateur radio gear?

Probably because of the ongoing shortage. They can get more for their used ham equipment, than they would have a year or two ago.

Possible short supply on new rigs from retailers could help inflate prices on used gear making it a good time to part ways with rigs you don't need. Makes it good for seller with the higher profit, but bad for buyer having to pay more then in the past. However, it could be good for buyer if he/she can't find what he wants elsewhere.

Then theres always the possibility that with nice weather we are starting to get active to clean up the shacks and just want to thin down the herd.

I scanned thru ebay searching Hallicrafters and Hammarlund. A real jaw-dropper. I dunno if this stuff is actually selling at those prices. I'd guess not.

I think there are always hams selling gear and always hams buying it. It's certainly a sellers' market right now though. I have been thinking this would be a great time to thin the herd. I don't need 10 HF radios haha

And why is a there a mass buying spree?

And what’s wrong with the rest of us who are neither buying nor selling? o_O

I am going to speculate these radio amateurs are moving to and buying properties that have antenna restrictions.

A lot of older hams have enough unused equipment to equip five shacks. Some insurance doesn't cover Viagra.

Why are hams buying radios that other hams are selling? Sheesh.

Could it be some of us are happy with what we got? (OMG! :eek:THAT is sheer heresy!:p Heaven forbid, a ham who is satisfied with anything LESS than a couple of Hilberlings, and a half dozen legal limit amps!)
