I've been seeing all kinds of stations from China, and a few other countries in that region, on 20 meters both in the morning and the evening the last week or so here in Maine.

I have had good luck with China using a offset center fed dipole for the lower bands. It's likely easier to China from Alaska than other places. I have no complaints about their ops.

    Hi
I think that propagation is very important, in my experience there are only a few minutes in the day that there is propagation to support a contact. I an located in Connecticut and I think that late afternoon and early evening are the best times for me to contact China. Also research grayline contacts, this is where both stations are located in the dawn and dusk areas. Another thing is the antenna. A two element yagi will be better than a long wire which may be quite directional and will not be effective to the us if it is oriented in another direction.
    Good luck and keep trying.

Try using VOACAP to see when the best time is for propagation to the USA. Try longpath times. Try different antennas.

Thank you very much. I will have a try!
By the way what is your two elements' Yagi like? I mean the technical data?

    If you can't hear.
    0. Improve signal to noise. Remove all noise sources that you are able to.
    1. Improve signal to noise. Narrow bandwidth mode. CW? Digital?
    2. Improve signal to noise. Directional antenna.
    3. Listen at the right time of day for the band you are on.

    To be heard.
100 W on 20 or 40 to a ground plane or a dipole that's 1/2 wave in the air should be adequate at times.
You'll need to be on the air those times.
