Which 2-Meter FM Mobile Rig To Buy?

    Seems like none of the radios built since 1980 are really simple to operate. With that being said though, personally, I would give the Kenwood TM-281A a look for base operation. I have one in one of my mobiles and have always gotten good audio reports on it, the price is reasonable, and it has a front-firing speaker. I also like the larger sized DTMF mic that comes with, but that's just me.

    there is no market for simpler. modern electronics makes complex easy for the engineers. simpler makes things harder for marketing types.

    I'm not going to say it's the best 2M radio, but I had a FT-2900 in the shack before I replaced it with a FT-8800.
    Got the 2900 on sale for $130
    Good powerfull radio, 75w, no SSB, heatsink (no fan), 2M only.
    I do always get the software which is mo $$$

    I would make other suggestions, but like others said, we don't know what you really need.
