Just a thought today about the future of SDR. Where do you see it going in the next 10 years?
Here is just my thoughts on it and what may happen.

There seems to be a drive towards a unit that is a direct retrofit into DIN vehicle mounts, to be used as a standard radio on the dashboard, but is capable of a lot more. Instead of a separate head unit for your chosen rig, I can see it being a bit more integrated, where you can select whether to use it as a normal tuner or use for communication.
You can already use voice calling in some vehicles so it may be a version of that.

Smaller and more integrated portable radios, using a wide format Oled displays, dedicated firmware and a Raspberry pi style size and format to it including a decent LiPo battery.

More integration of digital modes to enable the sending and receiving of emails outside of the standard systems to provide a more resilient system and where network coverage is poor, and... FREE. There is no reason why communication should cost anything once you have bought the equipment.

Better and more waterproof cases for everything, using 2 part injection moulded shock resistant materials.

What are your ideas about where SDR should be going?
