    Truthfully , " Good for you and ' less power to you ' " ! !

One of my 10 watt DX ( phone ) 10 meter contacts , in 1973 , was to
a station in Adelaide , South Austrailia .....

We then went to 20 meters so I could run a phone patch ( different radio ) to his
    cousin in Alton , Illinois ( QRO @ 500 Watts ) .....

ALL of the bands were HOT 24 - 7 back then ..... It was the best sunspot cycle I
have ever witnessed ...... Dating back to 1961 ...

QRP is NOT for the faint of heart ..... I still stick to my other post as
    the bands stink ......

True... And the tactics are similar. Pick the best time of day, stealthy spotting, highly accurate timing and casting. Catch one and move on....

QRP is the thrill of the hunt! If you want meat for sure, go to the grocery store...LOL!

Making the longest distance contact with the least amount of transmitted power.

I just made a JA1 contact on 17M CW using 4w and a ground mounted wire vertical.
1190miles per watt and received a 549 signal report.

    Rick ,

I agree with the ' thrill of the hunt ' scenario .....

However , IF that is your ONLY radio , it gets old FAST ! !

I just cannot see IT being fun being NOT HEARD most of the time ...

    That is all ....

P.S. CW is a totally DIFFERENT animal ... I qrp CW all. of the time ....

IT works on CW ..... Phone .... ' forget abowd it "

I had a fellow in Georgia (US) complain that I was only running 100 watts right after I got my license as a General. "you are a General. You should be using 1.5 KW!" I was transmitting off of a picnic table at Fort Davis State Park in Texas down in a bowl of mountains. I then turned my power down to 4 watts and he still gave me a 59 RST. When I told him that I had turned my power down it just made him madder. A fellow from Los Angeles came back to me with a "solid 59". I was happy to get out to both coasts with 4 watts on SSB.

A fellow amateur buddy of mine was ' tongue in cheek ' SERIOUS when
he was asked ' HIS ' definition of QRP .....

He was NOT smiling or grinning .....

    " Anything less than 1 KW " ..........

    His name you ask ?

    Jim Glasscock , W0FF ......

He then lived on the border of Saint Louis and Maplewood Missouri .....

He is a retired St. Louis police officer with the nickname of

    " Fearless Fosdick " :) A really smart guy as well .....

He since has moved to Union , Mo ( in the sticks ) .......

    I thought that I was ' strong ' with my < 100 watts ! ! !

    Definitions , definitions , definitions ! ! !
