An FTDX-3000 just sold for $1200 so the 9000 should be worth 3x as much.
"Discontinued" just means it's a "collectors item" and worth 2x the MSRP. I thought you knew that
Seriously though I echo that sentiment. Ebay (BIN/Reserve) prices are inflated due to the cost and risk associated with being a seller on eBay.
They are also associated with 'wishful thinking'.
Yes. On eBay one needs to look at the completed sale price, not the asking price.
That would have to include the shipping co$ts, I presume?

Has there been one on here selling lower than $900? I haven't seen it below that.
I have been watching the FTDX3000 for a while. I'd ask for $1,000 and go from there.
The Icom 7300 is down to $700 on Facebook sales boards, btw.
