KB1FWN writes "The world of amateur "ham" radio is very confusing to any new ham. I remember what it was like. I followed the fad and just read the question pool. But, thats the wrong way to do things.

The second I made my first QSO, I was so confused that I think I almost dropped the radio. But, then I read the book. Now it made sense. But, since many hams do not complete my final step, we have more yearly dropouts than ten years ago. If you know anyone who is taking the test, please tell them to read the book NOT just the question pool.

If we do not help to keep the hobby alive, it will fade away. Just thinking of our bands turning into CB riddled allocations makes my blood curdle! So, whatever you can do to help out, you should do. After all, one of the many goals of ham radio is to facilitate rescue
efforts. But now, who is facilitating our's?"
