Had a smidgen if success today. At the very least it was fun.

From Hawaii I managed to “contact” my friend in Los Angeles using a KX2, an inverted dipole and 12 watts. Not exactly QRP, but I wanted to up my chances.

Contact is in quotes because my friend could hear me but he doesn’t know Morse code and it wasn’t strong enough for a decoder. It no matter! It was super fun!

I broke out the KX1 yesterday. No contacts, but I spent a bit listening to TZ/DK1CE working his way through a pileup on 30m.

LA6NCA has a lot of nifty youtube vids featuring low power WW II gear. Here is a good one:

I had a watt meter on the wrong scale and worked a dozen or so people on PSK and other modes at 3.5 - 5W instead of 35-50. Conditions weren’t as bad as I thought.

All last night I did 1 watt and less on FT8, from the Midwest and was snagging stations from Spain thru South Africa. I was actually astounded, as I only have a 34 foot vertical and a super lossy UNUN.. 80, 60, 40 and 30...

Only 40m here at the moment, but yes, it's been very interesting last few days. I can listen to QSOs all over Europe for a few hours after sunset. Easily hearing both sides, almost like being over there.
