The internet, doubly... It removes a lot of the WOW factor of radio communications, but it is also responsible for a large part of the RFI here that is destroying radio communications. The VDSL protocols that are now widely used in Britain, at least, cram 100MBps down a copper pair designed to carry 4kHz audio and the leakage is very high!

I politely but firmly disagree with this. Digital voice is just another way to transfer voice over RF. In a simplex or conventional repeater use case, it is functionally very similar to FM voice, with the addition of limited data applications.

This 1000%. Try to explain ham radio to someone that knows nothing about it. They can't wrap their head around the concept of talking on a radio.

    Although, I still can't wrap my head around "You're 5/9, 7 3." NEXT

It can be just this, yes. However, 99.9% of the time, it is actually used with a hotspot and internet connection.

None of us are as exciting to talk to as we think we are. I can only handle so many weather reports and brag tapes.

Depends on the town, our DMR and 3 fusions repeaters are used often for local and regional work.
Once in a while we might spin it up on a nationwide Room or Talk Group.
