My name is Paul, N9PCT, and I am a graduate student at Purdue University and the ex-president of the Purdue ARC, W9YB. A colleague and I want to conduct a survey of the most common type of vehicle in which mobile radio setups are installed. We wish to know about "permanent" setups, such as "mobile" radio installs (like the Kenwood V71) and HF radio installs (like the IC-706) where the antennas are mounted to the vehicle. This does not include vehicles that are set up to use an HT as the transceiver, like running a mag mount with a Baofeng. The survey is a simple multiple choice poll attached to this post. The results of which are public and we hope will be of use to others wanting to know this as well. Please ask questions and I will be glad to provide clarification. Please add a response for each vehicle you have a unit installed in. Thanks!
Might want to break the categories down further. While my car is a 4-door hatchback, it is very small and would be better listed as a sub-compact.
I have a 2012 Ford F150 Super cab 4x4. I made a heavy duty hump mount to hold the radios from Material that I bought from Tractor Supply. I mounted the radio brackets to the hump mount. No holes to drill the mount is pretty heavy and sets in place just fine. I run a Yaesu FT 857D and a Yaesu FT 100dr. The antennas are mounted in the stake holes with mounts that I purchased from Breedlove mounts. I run the hustler 80, 40 and 20 meter Resonators for HF and a Diamond SG7900ANMO antenna for 2m and 70cm.
