Hopefully, if the infrastructure fails I will have an HF/VHF portable setup.
Mesh would be the most efficient way of passing information.
Usually outside of the affected area, there is a communication infrastructure still in place. It's just reaching it...
My packet chess server on 145.05 is solar powered. I'm good.
Well we had lightning, hail, high winds and a heavy downpour this afternoon.
Trees are down all over. People can't even get home.
The local repeaters are down. So much for backup power.
The Homeland Defense Network (HDN) of local repeaters was working but not a peep out of anyone. No Skywarn, no nothing...
All the time I have to hear bullcrap nets practicing and when the poop hits the fan.. NADA.
Thankful I have a generator and my smartphone.
And in CT of all places... the mecca of the ARRL.
