Grow a jaunty mustache. Women love them and children will ask you how you got so smart. Twirl the corner well saying such things as Carolina Windom, propagation, and standing wave ratio.

I thought it was a service and not a hobby ;)

You'd have better luck getting kids to watch black and white TV - or any TV for that matter.

Give the nice man a break. His motives appear pure.

What can we do to grow the ham radio hobby? Why? Do we need to remind people that we're not a sales organization with quotas or corporations with the need to keep growing? If we froze at our current levels and just replaced hams that quit or croak, would that be bad? We'd still be the largest ham population almost by 2 times in the world.

It is not the quantities of radio amateurs that need
    to be growing.

    Instead, it is their quality.

There's no need for yet more people, especially not Americans having 'deserved' their license by memorizing the answers to exam questions from a license manual..

Is there any particular reason why you, as a non-American, want to bash American hams?

Great. Another old guy full of platitudes on how to "grow the hobby".

My guess is that waving around a DSTAR HT on a youtube channel is not going to do it, whatever "it" is.
