What are some Japanese brand CW/morse code keys? And, among those brands, which one or two are considered to be among best? Also, any recommendations on specific models that are quite good too? I like both straight keys and paddles, I don't care which style/type. Also, any thoughts on modern versus vintage are appreciated too.
    Thank you

I have a GHD 501 and it's a fabulous key. I love it to death. It's made in Sendai City, Japan. Morseexpress.com sells them here in the states. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I picked up a Japanese commando key & keyer - little aluminum box , not just a key , too long ago to remember all the details , at a flee market in No. Cal. in the 80s , sold it at a gun show within a yr. or so , also in No. Cal.
That was before I got into ham radio , if I had found after becoming a ham - it would be part of my ham radio - hoarding stash ;)

I have a Hi-Mound 702. Really like it, very crisp feel (have a Nye Viking and it feels "mushy" by comparison). Downside, it's loud CLACK CLACK as you key it.

SATO straight key is my all-time fave... super nice feel and balance and very easy to use

I like my Hi-Mound key that was purchased from a man in Crete, it's been around the world!

Any reason you are limiting yourself to Japanese keys?? Maroni and Amplidan marine keys are highly respected. G0NVT makes a gorgeous Marconi 213 replica. Frattini in Italy makes gorgeous keys, but be prepared for sticker shock. There a few German key makers that are well worth noting. For a paddle, the US made Magnakeyer is my favorite. I'd go with GHD if Japanese was my only choice--purely personal preference.
