Just throwing everything down and driving to Louisiana is not a simple thing for a ham who is young. You need transportation, permission (from mom and dad if you're young), money, and time. Today, at $3.30 a gallon, its a bit of an order to drive 100 or 200 miles to play radio for the weekend....

Don't be so quick to assume.

When I was in highschool I operated from K6XT's place east of San Diego. That was an hour's drive and it did tax my OM's patience after a while...

    Richard and others

I was not assuming that anyone would be able to drive across country to operate at a contest station

I was just saying there are many contesters that will welcome you
just find one near you and ask them !

    highlight the positives !

yes I know gas is pricey these days
and yes I realize parent consent can be an "issue"

ok I currently have a wonderfull home station but if i want to really kick it i go to a local contest station. the closest is down or up my street and a even bigger one is in nh for any multi oping i do. that dnt stop me from building my own but ya ppl look around ever hams with their own good stations would let you in to operate either as single or multi one. keep your eyes out
