    James Cordell Payne
    (December 18, 1943 - April 16, 2009)

    James Cordell Payne, age 65, of Cedar Valley Road, Hudson, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was born December 18, 1943 in Wilkes County to the late Joseph Reid and Grace Parsons Payne.

    Mr. Payne was retired from Precision Saw & Tool. He faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1960-1963 and was an avid Ham radio operator and NASCAR fan. He was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed.

    Survivors include two sons, Michael Cordell Payne of Detroit, MI and Jeffery Dell Payne of Alexandria, VA; two brothers, Paul A. Payne and wife Donna of Moravian Falls and Philip R. Payne of Hudson; his longtime friend and companion, Faye Alley; two grandchildren; one niece; one nephew and five great-nieces.

    Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Greer- McElveen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
