Goodbye to my best mate at the club, Bill, who continued to spend time with me, even for the couple of years I lost interest in radio, and just doing electronics. Bill was one of the few true hands-on tinkerers, always keenly interested in anything I was making, fixing any old gear, and always dropping by for a chat. In my earlier time, I designed an antenna mast, with wire cable and a pulley, so it could be raised and lowered easily by one person. He told me was good, but over-engineered. I never let Bill live this down, and referred to it as my “over-engineered antenna mast” for the next 5 years. I will keep my word, and should I upgrade, I’ll take on your callsign if I can. One day I hope to stick a label on that mast that reads “Over-Engineered by VK4JJY’. Take that you old fart! I already miss your visits Bill.
