The USS Midway aircraft carrier (CV-41) museum ship (NI6IW) in San Diego CA will be participating as a military station in the Annual Armed Forces Day (AFD) Crossband Test (07-08 May 2021) using its former international callsign NIIW. The AFD Cross-Band Test is a unique opportunity to test two-way communications between military communicators and radio stations in the Amateur Radio Service (ARS), as authorized in 47 CFR 97.111. Military stations will transmit on selected military frequencies and will announce the specific ARS frequencies monitored.

MIDWAY operators will simultaneously be commemorating the Battle of Coral Sea (4 to 8 May 42). We will be operating from 071800Z to 080500Z (Fri) and 081400Z to 082400Z (Sat). The AFD Cross-Band Test is on HF only: 4,013.5 MHz, 5,371.5 MHz, 7,493.5 MHz, 14,383.5 MHz, and 18,293.0 MHz. NI6IW will also look for two-way contacts on VHF/UHF Analog FM and DSTAR.
