I think the best thing I saw on TV about Ham Radio was when Herman Munster got on air. Now that was funny...

There's always Frequency.

 

I do not pay to see new movies now that they have such a price. Nonetheless, right you are about missing Art Bell and the like. Hams need to continue their investigation of cultures and the technologies of the telecommunications, whether such is man made or otherwise.

 

We had all but one public theater shut in - the Muni has absolutely murdered many small businesses here.

Ham radio is a great way to chat with folks in other cultures while providing a base (technology) to start on.

 

An old saying opines, "Any press is good press." But sometimes I wish this hobby wasn't routinely treated as the punch-line to a dumb joke.

The hobby deserves better. We contribute, quietly and too often without fanfare or recognition, and that suits us just fine. But the 'cool kids' in media repeatedly 'throw shade' (didn't they always) on what they don't understand or appreciate, or perhaps could not comprehend. Ironically, many of them ended up working for us, so I suppose there is some sort of cosmic justice.

The movie will do well. We will continue to be seen as fringe odd-ball whack-a-doodles too nerdy for the chess or audio-visual clubs, and too socially inept, or not bright enough for Mensa. Large multi-national concerns with deep pockets will continue to poach frequencies allocated for our use; and why not? We're consistently portrayed as incompetent, inept, impotent clowns.

<Sigh.> Naively, I thought high-school ended. It doesn't; it continues ad nauseam, only the pay is better.

 

The hobby is made up of its people some of which are quite able to demonstrate and respond in a fashion that can cause useful reflection. Yet there are idiots who have grown up playing on the air. So the jokes continue with their help. Context and who is saying what and doing what may be foolish must be considered. This is the same everywhere. Media demonstrates, & divides the responses. None the less, I am still thankful for the geniuses who advance the telecommunication hobby for furtherance of all our concerns.

 

Well, the good news is this looks like a straight to streaming movie so finding it will be easy.

These films never have a Ham on the set offering technical advice how communications work over Amateur Radio. It's always just wrong. Drives me crazy.

 

The film makers apparently signed over distribution to CQ Magazine.

 

It is good to see radio being used in the movies. I plan on seeing it when it comes on the big screen.
