"I thought that I had heard it all after 70 years of hamming. However, yesterday I had a QSO and the subject of golf came up. The fellow with whom I was talking told me that he was such a golf nut that he even applied golf to ham radio.

I asked him how he could that. He told me that he had taken an aluminum golf ball retriever. Fastened the handle of it to a insulated rod in the ground. Extended it to l9 feet. Fed a coax to it and into a three foot copper rod in the ground next to it, and had an instantaneous l7 meter antenna!!! And, it was putting a 9+ signal down here into Florida from Michigan!!! No end to ingenuity in ham radio!! W9LXC"
