    I have an MFJ-998 tuner. For those that have weird problems with theirs IE lockups or just strange acting in general I can tell you how I fixed mine with out 1 problem since. I found that is was RF within the tuner scrambling its brain. There is an aluminum divider that stands upright between the tuner portion and the control and display PCB. That divider is not tall enough to shield the control board properly. I took a piece of real duct tape, the kind made of aluminum, and put it across the gap that was left open by the shield not being tall enough. Like I said earlier not one problem since.

    For those that say too many menu items. There is a cheat sheet in the manual. I copied that and left it close by for awhile. Those menu commands are quite easy to remember when they are right in front of you. I don't touch mine anymore except for to turn it on.
