"Tribute To The Troops" - ARMAD Special Event

A pre - Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day - special event is set for this Saturday.....

On Saturday March 25, 2006 from approximately 2145 - 2400 UTC {1645 - 1900 EST} amateur radio operators will be on the air from several locations around the U.S., including some military bases, for the purpose of sending messages of thanks and appreciation to our Troops, veterans, and retired military members and their families.

Net control will be KC9HAJ and will be located in Ft. Wayne, Indiana at Dupree Memorial Church the site of the "Tribute To The Troops" Gospel concert.

This concert is a benefit for military families and is part of a series of "Tribute To The Troops" Gospel concerts in support of military families. The concert is being sponsored by an active duty sargent (Sgt. Richardson) from Ft. Riley, Kansas.

Show your support by checking in and sharing a message of support for our troops on the air. Also invite members of your community to your station (especially if you can set up at a public location) to send their greetings and messages of support LIVE on the air.

Operations will be mainly via Echolink and various Echolink connected RF repeaters because of the short notice.

The primary nodes used will be: *WASH_DC* conference #6154, KB9IBW-L #106819, and the *ARMAD* conference - #267069, as well as EchoIRLP node #9258.

All checkins from Echolink and Echolink connected RF repeaters are asked to please connect to the *WASH_DC* conference #6154 as the other primary nodes will be connected to that node to simplify net control operations for this event.

Amateur Radio Operators have begun a unique way of showing support for our Military Veterans, and Active Duty Members. Emery McClendon, KB9IBW, founded
ARMAD - Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day as a way to allow the people of communities worldwide to express thanks, and appreciation to those that serve in the military. Since the inception of ARMAD in May 2004, ARMAD has grown, at a rapid rate, with Amateurs joining in from locations around the world to spread messages of support during this "LIVE" forum.

The Tribute To The Troops Concert Special Event went very well on Sat. 3/25/06.  We had Military people on location in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 5 Units, and they were on the radio speaking to other Troops, Retired Military, and Veterans.
We had locations on the air from around the U.S, and the World.  This was a good warmup session for the May Event.

ARMAD is a very good way for Amateur Radio to receive public and media attention.  The event in May will involve HF, APRS, PSK31,Echolink, and IRLP.

We encourage all Amateur Radio operators to visit the ARMAD webpage to learn about the event, and to become involved.  ARMAD has been chosen as the premire event of National Military Appreciation Month. {MAY}  ARMAD will also be the focus of upcomming radio talkshows, and written articles.

Let's demonstrate our hobby to the public, and provide a great public service on May 27. 2006 during ARMAD.  Get your Club, and community involved and "Ham It Up For The Troops."

The March 25th Tribute To The Troops Concert Special Event went very well indeed.

There were checkins to the net from around the world.

ARMAD continues to grow at a rapid pace and several other military support groups are getting involved with ARMAD because of our capabilities to tramsmit world-wide and talk with a lot of our troops and their families at one time and do it from many different locations around the world.

More and more hams who are in the military are hearing about ARMAD as the word spreads and they are contacting us to get involved. This is getting many of the non hams in the military excited also.

Help spread the word and check the links in the other messages in this thread for info on how you can get involved.
