I replaced a scratchy volume pot with an OEM equivalent in a re-capped AA5 set and now barely off 'silent' yields booming audio. What happened and how do I fix it?

Check the value, check if its a logarithmic or linear taper pot, usually represented A or B in front of the value, soetimes they may be marked log or lin.... also you can get reverse log pots to add to the fun.

It may also be you have it wired wrong.

It’s possible one end of the pot is supposed to be at ground. If the ground is not there the voltage drop across it will be incorrect.

Have you tried an "audio taper" pot?
