TM 241 battery replacement

I have an old TM 241A that needs to have its Lithium battery replaced. I don't, however, have a manual showing where the battery is located. Can someone help with info about replacing it?

The battery is on the front panel PC board -- Significant disassembly -- get the Service Manual for diagrams!
Battery is either on top of the large IC (IC201), shown in TM-241A Service Manual,
or on opposite side of PC board.

You MUST be proficient in proper soldering skills and static protection (ESD) for removal and replacement -- this is why instructions were never provided for consumer/non-technical user replacement.

IF you have never performed work like this -- GET HELP.
You see the "bricked units" on eBay, often as parts radios -- missing screws and parts.
Some destroy the microprocessor underneath and others the PC board.
You would think some of these guys were using blow torches -- no skill/talent and their big mistake was opening the radio.

I've changed several. not rocket surgery...

about 3 bucks from batteriesamerica in wisconsin. cr2032 with tabs...

i can do it it about 45 minutes...

trick is to mark the board with polarity before you remove the old battery..


I found easier to solder by rotating the board 180 degrees.
put the first one on back wards.

doesnt hurt anything. just doesnt work........
but it does give you lots of programming of memory practice until you figure it out.


get the battery with the solder tabs welded on.. same price for either.

battery is good for about 10 years so I would not bother with the battery
'socket' some recommend so you can just pop in another.
you will need more practice n ten years anyway.



another trick is you can use your long nose pliers to remove the mic connector nut (spanner nut with two notches)
or a 90 degree internal snap ring pliers works.

carefull when you take off the plastic front panel. all the push buttons fall out.. and you will knock off the power button extension.

make sure you sweep the floor before you start so you can find the parts you drop.

another trick is use a cake pan or one of those plastic boxes that a dozen donuts come in.. use as atray and do all work inside the pan.

if any thing falls its still in the pan.....
now you are on your own to learn stuff...
