The Office of Strategic Services was established by a Presidential military order issued by President Roosevelt on June 13, 1942, to collect and analyze strategic information required by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and to conduct special operations. The first transceiver developed for clandestine communication by the OSS was the "Strategic Services Transmitter-Receiver Model 1", also known as the SSTR-1. It was a transmitter, receiver, spare parts kit and a power supply compact enough to fit into a small and innocuous looking suitcase, or as you will see in this video, under a coat and in a loaf of bread. This instructional video was produced by the OSS and has been made available by the National Archives.

It seems the slow tuning up process might give the bad guys a better chance to find you. I enjoyed the video.
