For those interested, this change was brought about by members taking an active interest, asking questions, challenging poor results and exposing unethical and inappropriate Board behaviour. Formal WIA controlled channels - namely the members journal, Amateur Radio Magazine - was actively censored by the board. The WIA National News service is controlled by the board and members who are loyal to the board. No impartial editorial decision making was permitted by any WIA controlled media channel. The WIA does not have a Facebook page or any social media presence. The Board continued to publish misleading propaganda and lies to conceal the facts from members.

In March 2016 the WIA Reform Group was established. It conducted considerable independent investigation and issued weekly newsletters; it had a Facebook page. Reform Group supporters attended the WIA AGM and asked questions - which were suppressed or taken on notice. Continued notification to the broader AR community in Australia grew through 2016 as more and more members became aware of the facts.

The VK6 News team got on board in the second half of 2016 and started publishing its own independent news articles - which were quickly picked up and rebroadcast across the Eastern Seaboard - some 3,000km away.

For those interested, visit the following web sites to gain some insight into the issues VK amateurs were facing with their national body and the steps we took to drive change. The election results vindicated the many members who wanted change - and by using social media, the www and alternative news broadcast services we were able to break the news cycle and alert members to the facts.

The vast majority of VK amateurs are looking forward to a new board and a new WIA; one that practices transparency, good business practice and sound corporate ethics. All in the interests of bettering Amateur Radio in our country.
