If they were worried, I suppose they'd move to Zinio or something.

The K9YA Telegraph is a very good publication and it is completely free.

That's a dangerous and convenient assumption. I don't know what their decision making process was but if I was publishing something like this, my thoughts would be something along the lines of the following.

We can keep it simple and publish using the most common, open and inexpensive technology for the reader. Our technically minded readers will appreciate that. It will keep the costs down and we're not dependent on anyone else. Let's hope nobody abuses this.

We can use a service like Zinio. That will cost more and potentially bring complaints and support issues when some grumpy OM tries to use it on IE 6 with Windows 95. We'll have to be mindful of Zinio's terms and conditions. It makes us dependent on an external service.

It's not dangerous at all. If I'm done with a magazine, print or electronic, I will pass it on. If the publisher is worried about that, they can take steps to prevent me from doing so.

They do take steps by including a clear notice in the document telling you not to do it. It relies on honesty.

If I've read the magazine, don't need or want it anymore, and a buddy of mine would like to read it, I'll pass it on. I also remove those little tags from mattresses. I know. I'm a scofflaw. :D

    Or perhaps disappearing ink.

What of all those magazines in the doctor's office? Shall we not read them?
