Or is this another "almost right" from Windcamp?

Good advice.... back clip shoulda worked :-(

Cage is about the same price as the backpack, which is totally protective BTW.

They make good stuff - but having tried one I just think stuff like that adds unnecessary bulk and weight. VERY nicely made though for those who feel the need for all that in a field radio

The protection you need is a pelican case. :)

Only thing they forgot is a folding handle on top of the frame.

I throw my KX2 into a zip-locking freezer bag and then into a soft case. Weighs less than a pound in total, no bulk inside my backpack, and I'm done.

73, see you on the air!

I carry mine in a backpack and think this would be a good accessory to protect the rig when it is removed and setup for use. I wonder if Windcamp will have a lexan cover for it in the future?

Again, what's the point of having a "portable" radio when you put it in a huge case?

And what is the point of making a portable radio in a case of fragile plastic, when even phones of one well-known company are made in an aluminum case ...

Why is it impossible to make a rotatable display like in cameras?

The need for additional cases and accessories exemplifies why the 705 isn't a great POTA / SOTA radio. Better for throwing in a case for use in a hotel or family's house. Not hating on the 705...just think the branding missed the mark.

But Icom didn't miss anything... You just have to pay the price. You leave the radio and your accessories tucked in the LC-192 backpack. There's the protection. A flap drops down and you use the radio in the bag. Now the argument is the $169 price tag for a bag... but I digress.

The IC705 isn't a bad radio but it's a bit big for sota.
The best protection is the original shipping container.

Best for SOTA is an MTR or FT817/8

I have left my IC705 in a fully protected state, At the dealers.

I will go & fetch it if Icom ever decide to fit an internal ATU & a decent battery.
