The Next.POTA.app Is Live: What Comes Next

I only hope that this weird habit of cheating will end. I mean, this is something you are supposed to do for fun, not for badges or a 'medal collection', right? Just to let you know, we can easily tell if you are actually in the park or just activating your nice leather chair at home.

TDOA, Cross-Checking, RBN reports... let's normalize that a good Hunter must use these tools.

The problem here is not being 'goal-driven'. The real issue on the WARC bands is the technical disparity in the link budget.
If someone is out in a park running 5 to 20 Watts QRP with a temporary wire antenna over a high noise floor, and on the other hand you have 'Big-Spend-Retirement-Money-Bill' blasting the full 1,500W legal limit from his multi-element directional beam on a 100-foot tower, there is 'no game' anyway. The gentleman's agreement shouldn't target the 'goals' of an activity, but rather promote real-time operational awareness regarding power levels and spectral footprints.

In the end, I honestly don't care about these squabbles. I turn on my radio to have fun in the true spirit of amateur radio, always striving to strictly adhere to all applicable rules and regulations. While I respect everyone's opinion, I might not agree with certain operating styles—but I'll gladly keep doing things my way. 73!

 

Is that actually a thing? I've heard a few folks on QRZ (it's always only on QRZ) complain about it, but I've never worried enough to look into it. Getting out into the parks or on top of a mountain are the primary reason for me to pursue those programs, so it feels like people are missing the point by cheating. I'd rather be outdoors sitting on a rock with my radio than indoors any day.

Is it possible to lock the POTA spot when I am updating my own spot?

Meaning lock the record in the database? The spot will often update by RBN or a hunter, which is great, but if I have the record/spot open could it lock so my changes take effect? I often move frequency, mode, band, etc.
