I've been trying to make a contact with them on Saturdays for awhile now... only heard them once I think on 20 but they couldn't hear me. Definitely need to work on my antenna (it's a compromise) and hope that conditions get better.

I love reading the stuff on their web site... but if you really want an "eye" opener, there are recordings on their site of some of the more famous ship-to-shore transmissions... including some distress calls. It's a great listen! I was amazed at how poor some of the ship transmitters sounded, including severe chirp. And how bad some of the sending was (probably in rolling seas!) - a testament to the ability of the KPH operators to copy it all accurately no matter the conditions.

Amazing piece of history and glad there is someone keeping it alive. Thank you KPH!!!!

If I were closer I would enjoy seeing the station in person. If I ever get out that way I will keep it in mind. Glad to see it still there and is being kept up.

And here I thought this article was going to be about the true "last radio station", WGU-20, broadcasting on 178 kHz.

    (Dang clickbait thread!)

Is this the same Richard Dillman as the Free Software/Copyleft movement?

Yes I did. I got confused because Stallman is a Dill__.

I would love to get a commercial radiotelegraph license and have it endorsed at KPH. What a thrill. OK, new bucket list item!

I was sports editor of the Technique, but I did some on-air at WREK too. 73, Chuck
