San Diego, CA, February 3, 2016 -- On the heels of their recent, feature-rich, release just a month ago, the AREDN Project has announced the availability of a beta-test version of their software, v3.16.1.0b01, which can significantly increase the data throughput of mesh networks (from a max of 54 Mbps to 130 Mbps) and provide ham control operators tools to more effectively deploy, optimize, and manage their mesh networks. It also provides a standardized method for mapping mesh networks to better convey coverage to deployable Emcomm resources. Ron, VE3ZX, admin for the Hamilton ARC (Ontario, Canada) mesh project, reports, “Switching to AREDN software resulted in a dramatic change in performance. Getting out of the WIFI band made our mesh come alive! We've gone from hearing QRM from 100 signals to only hearing the nodes we want to connect to… the change in signal to noise is dramatic. I'm guessing we’re getting over-land links of 50km or more. The AREDN software presents some really interesting possibilities for us.” The AREDN™ Project was formed by former members of the Broadband-Hamnet Development team to pursue the specific needs of hams deploying mesh networks intended to restore data communications during local and regional disasters. This past year, the project team was the recipient of the prestigious ARRL Microwave Development Award for its development and global adoption of its technology across the 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz Amateur Bands.
