Talk by the world famous Mr. John Ackermann

You will be glad to know that JNA Wireless Association is organizing a talk by the world famous Mr. John Ackermann from Ohio USA on 9th Dec 2003 at The Audio Visual Theatre, ground floor, Wilson College, Girgaum Chowpatti, Bombay-400 007 at 06:30 hrs.

I may add here that OM John is one of the members of the original team of TAPR of Arizona, which wrote the first Protocol for Packet Radio. A matter of fact it was this protocol that made packet Radio a reality.

This time John is going to speak on "Position Tracking using HF Radio." This is a new concept in the field of wireless communication and more so in the world of Amateur Radio.

John is also going to speak and give a live demonstration of another GREAT and a totally new concept called as "Software Defined Radio." From what I have read in the review by QST, I think this is the ultimate in radio design where you are controlling various parameters of a set with help of dedicated software.

Following the talk we will have a short question answer session.

Also inform other hams who would be interested as all hams are welcomed to take this opportunity to take a
look at these ground breaking technologies.

Biodata:
John Ackermann has been a member of TAPR for many many years. He has been on their board since 1995 and its President since 2000. OM John has been a ham for over thirty years and has earlier held callsigns such as WN90WI, WB9OWIand AG9V. He has long been interested in the link between the computer and ham radio. He started using Packet Radio way back in 1985 and began running a Packet BBS shortly after that. In the early 1990s he was instrumental in a 19.2kbps packet network linking three major cities in the state of Ohio. He was one of the earliest users of TCP/IP over Amateur Packet Radio and wrote a widely-used document about how to configure and use a TCP/IP station.

Today his radio related interest is focused primarily in the areas of "Software Defined Radios" and precise measurement of time and frequency.

He is an active user of Linux and runs numerous computers in his basement including an Internet server which host many websites of number of ham radio and other non-profit organizations.

John is a member of the ARRL and serves as an Asst. Director for the Great Lakes Division. He is also a member of AMSAT, the QCMA, the IEEE and several local radio clubs.
