My rig has a zero beat button. It seems to be made of aluminum.
The lack of zero beating probably gets back to the CBification of ham radio, in this case where SSB operators seem to think all QSOs are on some multiple of 5 kc and channelize the ham bands that way. CW has not had that affliction but anyone operating operating old AM and SSB gear that has less than 1 cps dial resolution or a vintage VFO gets told he is "off frequency."
Does this really happen that often? If it does, I would look at it as a teachable moment and help the guy understand.
