Arguably one of the most known/QSL wanted hams in our lifetime.... wow.

Very sad news - may he rest in peace

Very sad news indeed. R.I.P. Monk Apollo.

I also remember another cleric, and well known ham, Father Moran in Nepal.

Sad news indeed. Condolences to his family and his brothers at the monastery.

For many decades, Monk Apollo was the sole operator from the rare country of Mount Athos. A talented and religious man, Monk Apollo combined an engineering background with a deep religious faith. He became an international ambassador for ham radio and one of our most famous hams.

Sadly, Monk Apollo underwent surgery in 2016 for cancer, and although he was in remission for almost three years, he succumbed (to complications) according to JE1LET and DX-world (https://dx-world.net/sv2asp-monk-apollo-s-k/ )

We will all feel the loss of this great man of faith and the opportunity he gave us to communicate with one of the rarest of rare DX spots.

    RIP.

Not official, but initial reports mention brain cancer as the cause of death.

    Only 64 years young. Tragic!
