Mientras la operación desde Mt Athos comienza a tener algo de controversia, poniendo en duda la legalidad de la misma desde varios sectores (algo clásico ya tratándose de Mt Athos), SV1GA/A se ha mantenido activa toda la noche en las bandas de 20 y 40m en ft8, a la espera de amanecer y continuar con la instalación.

While the operation from Mt Athos is beginning to have some controversy, questioning the legality of the same from several sectors (something classic already when dealing with Mt Athos), SV1GA/A has remained active all night on the 20 and 40m bands at ft8, waiting for dawn to continue with the installation.

Are these guys actually legit, or just think they're legit?
They probably each have an individual διαμονητήριον 'diamonitirion' (access permit) from
the Pilgrims' Bureau in Thessaloniki (Good job no female operators wanted to go with them, eh?)
However, this is very unlikely to be sufficient. The Greek State (i.e. Greek Telecoms etc.)
is represented by a Civil Administrator for Mt. Athos Autonomous Region based in Karyes.
They would also very likely require specific written permission from the Civil Administrator to
enter the Region and establish an amateur radio station there. Do they have that permission?
Do they likewise have written permission from the Archimandrite/Bishop of whichever of the
twenty-odd monasteries on the Peninsula they're staying at and are actually QRV from?
Facebook page doesn't say exactly - just vaguely says they were invited back. By whom exactly?
Doesn't say anything about permissions. Who knows, maybe SV1GA just invited himself back
and invited a few colleagues along to accompany him and lend credence to the operation and
they're all none the wiser.
And is it the entire Mt. Athos Peninsula that has been afforded DXCC status or is that status
restricted to the monastery buildings there?
As already pointed out by one Greek operator in the FB comments the /A suffix does not
mean 'Mount Athos'; it simply means the licence holder is operating from an alternate location
to the main station address, that's all. What the callsign SV1GA/A actually indicates as far as
the ITU and the local Telecoms Authority are concerned is that SV1GA is operating from an
alternate location somewhere in central Greece; i.e. nowhere near the Mt. Athos Peninsula.
Talk about making your own rules up!
Having a couple of minor DX celebrities on the team might impress a few folks and maybe
even keep the ARRL & DXCC Desk happy, but it does not confer genuine legitimacy,
neither does it confirm compliance with local legislation and/or ITU regulations.
It would therefore be in everyone's interests if SV1GA issued a public clarification addressing
the matter if they want the DX Community to afford them any credibility.

or SV1GA/A to operate from Greek SV2 region. DX Community still awaits a demonstrably legitimate operation. Thank you.
