Summits On The Air (SOTA)

A major Summits On The Air event takes place this weekend.

A major Summits on the Air event takes place on St George's Day - Sunday 23 April 2006.

During the 'Southern Pennines Fun Day', each of the 17 qualifying summits in the Southern Pennines SOTA region will be activated simultaneously. The amateurs atop each summit will attempt to contact each of the other summits using 2m FM. There will also be plenty of opportunities for other amateurs to call the summit activators.

A variety of bands and modes will be used by the summit activators, including 40m CW, 40m SSB, 6m FM, 4m FM, 2m SSB, 70cm FM, 23cm FM and 3cm (10GHz) WBFM.

All contacts made with these stations are valid towards the Summits on the Air awards programme.

Participants in the Southern Pennines Fun Day are raising funds for their local mountain rescue teams.
