You are not cheating PayPal out of their money (They get it from the Sender YOU).
What you do is you give up any recourse to dispute a transaction. Your money is now in the hands of the Scam Artist and there's nothing you can do about it. PERIOD! At least with Normal Paypal you can dispute the transaction and after a time you get your funds back. STOP thinking you're getting something for nothing. Only the Scammer is.... Your Money.

    From the PayPal web site:

Sending money to friends and family is free in the US for both you and the recipient when you fund the transfer with your bank account or PayPal balance. For a small fee, you can also use a debit or credit card. International transfers to Canada are free when funded by bank or account balance. Fees are required for all other countries or when an international transfer is funded by a debit or credit card.

It is true you have no protection and that is the big reason the scammers want you to use it but you are not paying PayPal their fees. Using PayPal to avoid fees is also wrong. See excerpt from PayPal -
"Sending money to friends and family is free in the US for both you and the recipient when you fund the transfer with your bank account or PayPal balance. "
They set up friends and family for friends and family. Not Fee Dodgers and Scammers.

Yes you are so right, people should never use the friends and family option in paypal to buy equipment.
