I never got to know Steve all that well, though I did meet him at Nearfest a few times and spoke with him on 75 meter AM occasionally. A true amateur radio gentleman with a radio voice that I truly envied, Steve was well known among the East Coast AM community.
Hearing of his passing came as a huge surprise to me: I never heard him mention that he was ailing; he always sounded hale and hardy on the air, though I did notice that his webSDR went dark a month or so ago.
Steve will be sorely missed here on the East Coast AM scene.

    Stephen Silvestri Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stockbridge Funeral Home LLC - Exeter on Apr. 6, 2026.

Stephen Joseph Silvestri Jr., of Kensington, New Hampshire, passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 76.
Born on December 20, 1949, in Hudson, Massachusetts, Stephen was the son of the late Stephen Joseph Silvestri and Francis (Coggins) Silvestri. He was predeceased by his brother Danny and his sister Kathy.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Connie Armstrong, Sandy Colocci, Debbe Desiata, and Rena Boston; his brothers, Dominic Silvestri and Paul Silvestri; and his children: his son Adam Silvestri; Jennifer Silvestri and her husband Scott Smith, along with their children Cameron and Grant; Dianne Cesaire and her husband Carmy Cesaire, along with their children Yazmine, Gabrielle, and Quentin; and Maeghan Silvestri and her husband Chad Harrington, along with their children Alaina, Hayden, and Noah.
Steve grew up in Clinton and attended Clinton High School before continuing his education at Sylvania Technical School and graduating from Mount Wachusett Community College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that remained an important part of his life.
He began his career with the Massachusetts State Police as a radio technician, later building a long and steady career in telecommunications-a field well suited to his natural ability to understand how things worked and, more importantly, how to fix them.
And fix things he did. If something was broken, Steve not only knew how to repair it-he probably already had the tools in hand. Plumbing, electrical, construction, small engines-he approached them all with confidence and a quiet pride. Sitting still simply wasn't his style; there was always something to do, improve, or tinker with.
He made his home in Kensington, New Hampshire, with his wife, Becky Hayden, with whom he shared many adventures over the 43 years of their marriage.
Steve had a deep love for the outdoors and tradition. For more than 50 years, he made regular trips to his hunting camp in New York, where he found joy in the camaraderie, the stories, and the time spent with family and friends. It was a passion rooted in childhood memories, especially those of hunting alongside his younger brother Danny.
He also enjoyed years of snowmobiling with his son, creating lasting memories. He was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed being able to speak with people all over the world from the comfort of his home. He often spoke of how incredible of an opportunity that was for him.
Summers were often spent at his camp on Sebago Lake, a place filled with laughter, boat rides and fishing trips. Whether he was giving a tour around the lake or trolling a fishing line for hours, he was happiest surrounded by family and the water he loved.
Steve will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his strong opinions (which he never hesitated to share), and the unique ways he showed his love. If he gave you a nickname, you were in his inner circle. If he gave you a "lecture," you could be sure it came from a place of care-and that he wanted you to get it right.
He lived a full, busy life, defined by hard work, service, loyalty, humor, and love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of stories, skills, and memories that will continue to be shared-likely with a smile, and maybe a laugh-by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed missed by his friends and family.
Services will be held at Stockbridge Funeral Home on April 18 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside burial in Kensington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen's memory to Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine.
