The Coal Country Amateur Radio Club will be hosting emergency nets for the Southern West Virginia Coal Fields, beginning today at 8am and continuing on a mixed schedule until this pending weather event has concluded in our area. If you have friends and family in the Virginia, North Carolina or South Carolina area, advise them of the schedule below. If in the event normal communications fail, such as cell phones and land line phones, and they need to get word back to friends and family, if they take this schedule to a amateur radio (ham) operator in their area, there's a good chance they can get word back to us. Messages can be forwarded in multiple ways, have them write down their message, be brief, include a name, address and their usual phone number and the message and get that to a ham radio operator. If this weather event severely affects us in the local area, our radio operators will be available to forward messages to a variety of individuals and organizations. We will prioritize EMERGENCY TRAFFIC on our nets and we will do everything we can to make sure that traffic is heard, copied and forwarded to the proper entity. Prior to beginning the Net, try out the repeaters we have available to us, either by making a call or by listening to existing phone traffic. If the repeaters are operational, report such to net control during the HF net.
