Back when I was a new Novice in 1974/1975, 40-meters was to most hams a wasteland of SW broadcast stations most ever night. HATED them lots of times, because they intruded so heavily on the only ham band many of us could use - 40-meters.

Now? Oh, I'd love to have all those all international SWL stations back!!! Not all the religious crap that's out there - but even that is far less than the 40-49 Meter Band "back in the day"

I had an old S-85 receiver in summer 1975 and really loved listening to the world on shortwave.

I miss those days. It's very different now.

Yeah I remember reading recently how internet and satellite have mostly given exclusivity for us on 40. I got stuck in 1968 on morse and caught up in 60s hysteria so never got my license till just last Feb '16. But I had a Hallicrafters SX-99 and listened a lot and I remember all the BC activity on 40.

At night on 40 meters above about 7220.0 or so all I ever hear is the Chinese broadcast stations. Any hams that I hear at night are usually below 7200.0. Triple "H" net is always there.
