SKYWARN Recognition Day is sponsored by the National Weather Service (NWS) and the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). It honors the contributions that Volunteer SKYWARN radio operators make to the National Weather Service and pays tribute to them for their vital public service they provide.

The SKYWARN Recognition Day event will be held December 3, 2005 from 0000 - 2400 UTC (6:00 pm Friday to 6:00 pm Saturday Central Time).

The SKYWARN event is a friendly contest held between each participating NWS office. The object is for all amateur stations to exchange QSO information with as many NWS stations as possible. The exchange information is: Call sign, signal report, QTH, and a one or two word description of the weather at your location.

You can earn a SKYWARN Recognition Day certificate by working just one National Weather Service office.  Submit a list of the NWS stations you worked with a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

    SKYWARN Recognition Day
    920 Armory Road
    Goodland, KS  67735

You will receive an 8 1/2 x 11 inch certificate in January or February 2006.

Once again this year the NWS office in LaCrosse Wisconsin will be participating.  Last year we worked 451 QSO's, for 43 States and 50 other NWS offices.  Look for members of the Mississippi Valley Amateur Radio Club and the Riverland Amateur Radio club to be operating jointly as WX9ARX.  We plan to run phone, PSK31, RTTY, and whatever other modes we have time for.  For more information, see http://www.crh.noaa.gov/hamradio/index.php
